About us
The Victoria State Emergency Service (VICSES) is a volunteer-based emergency management organisation, comprising 153 units and approximately 5000 volunteers across Victoria. The role of VICSES includes planning for and responding to emergencies involving floods, storms, earthquakes, road accidents and search and rescue operations, in addition to community education.
Our core response role involves acting as control agency for flood and storm incidents, in addition earthquake and tsunami events.
We also place a strong emphasis on emergency preparedness through our community education program. By educating the community on how to prepare for emergencies, we build resilience and reduce the consequences of emergencies for the community. Our award-winning community education program is one of the most innovative in Victoria, with the unit having initiated a number of projects which have since been adopted by other units across the state.
In addition to control agency responsibilities in our local area, we also provides assistance to other VICSES units in Victoria during major operational events. Additionally, we assist Victoria Police, Metropolitan Fire Brigade (MFB) and Country Fire Authority (CFA) with tasks such as searches for missing persons, crime scene lighting and searches, and bushfire support tasks.
